The Chine is worth a visit!
The Chine is worth a visit! The ticket gives unlimited access for seven days. We took advantage of this and visited on three occasisons from top to bottom, and then in reverse! We were there mid may, and the Chine closed at 9pm, so it was too light for the illuminations to be seen at their best. But it was still a pleasant walk. Public transport is excellent from Shanklin and all the drivers we encountered were very friendly and helpful! We only had time for a brief exploration of the coastal paths, but the views are stunning!

It depends on what you like.
It depends on what you like. For me it is a typical Victorian seaside town, and the types of facilities on the seafront reflect this. Certainly it has much of what a family is looking for regarding entertainment, although some of the hotels did appear a bit run down. From a walking viewpoint it is lovely, although less mobile visitors may find some of the inclines a bit challenging!

A steep walk down to the Promenade which is clean and flat.
A steep walk down to the Promenade which is clean and flat. There is a good clean beach and amusements for children. Lift up and down to the promenade during the day . The old part of the town was worth a visit. Good place to eat with home cooked food and owned by the same family for over 30 years was The village Inn. Town centre a bit run down and typical of seaside town. Lots of pensioners on coach party holidays. Thorougly enjoyed Osborne House , weather permitting you could spend the day there. Due to the cost of the car ferry we will probably not visit the Isle again.

Shanklin and Sandown are beautiful beaches but both towns...
Shanklin and Sandown are beautiful beaches but both towns are dying. Shops empty etc. Parking expensive and a nightmare to find which took a lot of the enjoyment out of the trip. Parking charged 24 hours 7 days a week.
Really comfortable good sized room with balcony overlooking a brilliant view of the gardens and sea. The hotel gardens were very extensive, pleasant and relaxing. Very friendly and helpful staff who couldn’t do more to make us welcome. Excellent full breakfast taken in the conservatory with marvellous sea views to look out onto. We also had one evening meal in the restaurant to celebrate my birthday which was most enjoyable. Excellent location for walking into Shanklin old village and also down the cliff to the esplanade.
The owners (Pete and Warren) think about the guests, and I could see that in everything - the house, room, services, and breakfast. They were very caring, friendly, and kind and made me feel at home. My dog was very excited and noisy in the breakfast room, had a toilet accident, and got sick, but they were very understanding. Not many places allow dogs in the eating area, so it was nice. The room was super clean and comfortable, I definitely come back for my next visit to IoW!
Lovely property with sea views, well positioned for Shanklin beach and old town. This is easily the nicest of the few hotels adjacent so we were pleased we chose this one. Had a small outdoor pool and an indoor pool that fits 7 max. Kids loved it. Staff were very polite and helpful although I think it was a hard a for them and they are lacking some experienced staff but I expect this will improved in time. Gemma the Manger was excellent and very attentive. Breakfast was great.
Peaceful, self contained accommodation with private garden decking area. Very comfortable with everything you need. Beautiful decor. Excellent shower. Helpful owner, though we never met but was always available by text if needed. Free parking in residential road. Easy walking access to the sea and shanklin seafront (10 minutes). Great location to drive to other parts of island, especially Ventnor and West Wight.
Very friendly and welcoming - nothing was too much trouble - especial thanks to Gilly.
Excellent breakfasts and service.
Superb location with secluded gardens although only a few hundred yards to the Shanklin itself and the Chine
Our room was very welcoming, clean and with everything we needed
We left the Bedford after our 4 night stay wishing we had booked our entire 9 day visit to the IOW there.
Lovely compact self-contained apartment in a great location in the centre of the historic old village of Shanklin and yet only a 10 minute walk to the beach. Very comfortable bed. Complimentary welcome breakfast pack was greatly appreciated. Pleasant hosts. Only metres to bus stops and a 10 minute walk to supermarkets - a car is not needed here.
Excellent location with amazing sea view from the window of our room. Easily walkable from Shanklin railway station or nearest bus stops. Leslie and Bennie were great hosts and even allowed us to stay till afternoon on the day of the checkout as that room was not booked for the night. Breakfast was adequate and rooms were very clean.
The hotel is close to the beach and in walking distance of the railway station and Shanklin old village.the swimming pool was a lovely way to start the day. 8t is unattended so we could just pop down anytime within opening hours. Staff were helpful and friendly. Breakfast was a good but with a fairly typical selection of options.
Lovely hotel overlooking the sea and within walking distance to Shanklin old village and to the esplanade. Staff were welcoming and friendly. Plenty of activities for the family to enjoy all within close reach of the hotel.
The thing that we didn’t pick up from the booking.com posting (and I accept that this might have been our own fault) is that this is a hotel that is focused on dogs and their owners. If you don’t like dogs, stay away.
A excellent location in the Old Village, near bus stops, station, restaurants, cafes & supermarket & close to the beach.
Very atmospheric & welcoming hotel with beautiful grounds & lovely staff. A real find!
Nice place near Shanklin waterfront. Easy road links to the rest of the island. Both hosts were friendly and helpful. Would recommend and stay here again when I return to IOW.
Excellent choices for breakfast and delicious . Property was well placed for all local areas - close to beach, shops, bars & restaurants, old village and chine.
